Long-term Collaborative Programs

How do we stop further deterioration of the Bering Sea and foster alternative directions, values, and economics? Amiq Institute has embraced this challenge by collaboration with Aleut communities in community development. Some examples:

Pribilof Islands (1981-1993):
· environmental curriculum development
· framework for a stewardship program
· consultants to City of St. Paul on economic diversification (not dependent on fishing)

Commander Islands (1994 - ongoing):
· diverse, small economies (nutritional kelp, educational tourism)
· alternative energy (biogas)
· informal conservation education
· training and cultural exchanges
